Almost all devices behave differently, and without control over the firmware, you are wholly reliant on the quality and functionality offered by that device manufacturer. That's why Frotcom builds and maintains its own proprietary firmware — and why we only support selected devices.
Why Doesn't Frotcom Support Every Tracking Device?
Not all trackers allow us to use our firmware, which is why we only support selected devices. This isn't a limitation — it's a deliberate choice that benefits every Frotcom customer.
Lower Data Usage = Lower Costs
Frotcom trackers use only 2.2 MB/month on average. Through advanced data compression and smart processing — only critical data is sent, alarms are prioritised, routine info is filtered — you get detailed tracking (even every 2 seconds) at significantly lower cost.
Consistent Performance Across All Devices
Mixed fleets with different firmware can produce inconsistent results — for example, "harsh braking" might be flagged differently by two devices, skewing driver performance scores. Frotcom firmware ensures uniform event detection and fair driver comparisons, regardless of the device.
Unlock Advanced Features
Some features simply don't work the same — or at all — with generic firmware. Vehicle immobilisation, for example, can be triggered automatically based on driver ID or geofence entry/exit with Frotcom firmware. Generic firmware may not support both options simultaneously.
Built for Fleet Managers, Over 25 Years
Frotcom firmware has been fine-tuned over 25+ years based on real customer needs. Each feature is carefully engineered to solve real-world fleet challenges — not theoretical ones.
